Often when I am asked what area of law I practise in, I am often met with comments such as “Oh, I don’t know how you can do that!” and “Oh that must be a horrible area to work in.”
Many years ago, I made the conscious decision to predominately practise in the area of family law and every day I am thankful for this decision.
Yes, some things do get messy between some parties and yes, I have heard some horrifying stories about the ordeals people or their children have experienced. Whilst those circumstances may make some people run for the hills, my natural instincts drive me to help.
In my view it is an honour to be a family law solicitor. I often see people at one of the most difficult and vulnerable times in their lives. My role is to guide them through the process and to resolve their concerns not only on a short term basis, but on a long term basis.
For those clients who have children, it is very important that my focus for resolution takes into consideration that once the parties’ differences are resolved, they will still be in each other’s lives for the sake of their children, then grandchildren.
In cases where my client has been the victim of domestic violence by an abusive partner, the assistance I provide to them for protection from an abusive spouse is immeasurable. I am so grateful that all of my clients have allowed me to help them and their children feel safe again.
It is a privilege that my clients place their trust in me to protect their family and their future.
It is very rewarding to see my clients finalise their matters with the confidence which not only has their matter resolved, but so they can live their life to the fullest without their former spouse.
When you look at the Kennedy Spanner website, or walk into our office you will see the following passage about what means, for each of us at Kennedy Spanner Lawyers, to be a solicitor.
Why I am Solicitor
…because every day I get to help people through
difficult times in their lives
…because I can help the disadvantaged
…because I honour the position of trust afforded me
…because the right to a fair trial is the foundation stone on which a free society is built
…because I relish the challenge of achieving the absolute best for my client
…because I realise that being an excellent Solicitor includes being a shoulder to lean on
…because sometimes I can indirectly touch the lives of children
without them ever knowing
…because I enjoy constantly learning about not only the law but about myself
…because I am answering the call to serve others
…because I want to make a difference!
This is why I am a family law solicitor at Kennedy Spanner Lawyers.
