Most superannuation funds include total and permanent disability (TPD) or total and temporary disability (TTD) benefits.
You may be eligible for TPD lump sum payments if you can show due to illness or injury you are unable to work in the following:
- Your usual occupation; and
- Any occupation which, having regard to your work history you would be normally able to perform.
If you are not able to do your job for a while, then you may be eligible to TTD monthly payments.
These payments are often up to 75% of your normal income and are payable for two years or up to the age of 65, depending on your policy. There may be a waiting period of 30 to 90 days.
These payments may be offset against any worker's compensation or Centrelink payments and may cease if your employment is terminated or if you receive a TPD sum, however each case is unique and we strongly suggest that you contact our office to discuss this issue.
